TVScape.NET has a lot of customizations done with GD Star Rating plugin. And it’s very likely that more changes will be added later. So, here are some of the customizations.
Archive Post
On the front page and on all archive pages, there is a list of posts. Review posts have user ratings and multi review ratings. Average of both is displayed using single stars element with average value. Both are added into the theme using custom functions.
Review Details
When you open the post you will see detailed review rating block. This also contains user ratings results block and the thumbs for rating the review on the left. For non-review posts there is only thumbs ratings block.
Reviews Ratings
Top level menu links to Ratings pages. Basic one is with the list of individual review ratings, and the subpages show aggregated results based od taxonomies terms. The singe review rating block (right image) renders some things using standard templates tags. For the middle section with review details, plugin uses custom template tag and filter hooks.
Series Ratings
Aggregated ratings are more or less the same, but data is based on a custom taxonomy. Rendering is done the same way as for the review ratings.
In the next two weeks I will try to write few tutorials and cover techniques used on TVScape to customize the rendering. As you can see, GD Star Rating is very powerful plugin and can render results in many different ways using combination of custom templates and tags, filter hooks and CSS.
