GD Star Rating 1.8.8

Thumbnail for GD Star Rating 1.8.8

New GD Star Rating, version 1.8.8 has just been released. This is another minor bug fixing release that takes care of few bugs including one more problem with loading of datepicker translation file, problem with export data and default thumbs rules.

I have received few reports that deleting comments doesn’t remove rating for that comment, but I was not able to reproduce it, and this deletion works. Problem may be caused (in rare cases), by WordPress. Plugin knows when to delete if WordPress triggers action for deletion. If this action is not executed, plugin can’t do nothing. And for this action to fail in the first place there must be an error behind it (some plugin causing it), or WordPress is not executing it in some cases. Either way I can’t do nothing about it.

This file can’t be missing, so most likely your installation is not proper. Reinstall plugin. Maybe auto update failed and some files are missing. It happens.

I check the server and found that file in there. I deleted the rating system and reinstalled. The same problem showed up again. Maybe it’s my HOST fault. Could you relay on a HOST which is cheaper than 1$? Guess not…

If the file is there, and PHP says that it’s not, then it’s obviously something wrong with the server.

I am having some real problems. So I am thinking about a re-install, but I don’t want to lose all the votes… So can I use phpMyAdmin to export the table “wp_gdsr_votes_log” then reinstall the database. Then drop the table “wp_gdsr_votes_log” and re-import it to restore all my votes?

    Thanks for your help.

mmmmmmm… well that could be a problem since there is no table named “wp_gdsr_ tables” in my database… here are all my tables:
        wp_gdsr_data_article
        wp_gdsr_data_category
        wp_gdsr_data_comment
        wp_gdsr_ips

        wp_gdsr_multis
        wp_gdsr_multis_data
        wp_gdsr_multis_trend
        wp_gdsr_multis_values

    Hi Millan

What plugin do you use for your content slider on your homepage. I am looking to install one that won’t conflict with gdstarrating so if you can tell me which one you use that will be great.

    Thanks.

Not a plugin. It’s a part of a theme used here. This is baseScape, one of my themes based on advanced xScape theme framework (also mine). Check out the official website for more info and a long list of features. Also, you can create free demo blog to test the control panel for the themes:

I tired of all the problems. So I have reinstall all the database tables. And have uninstalled a few more plugins. These are my current plugins I am still using…

    WP-chgFontSize
    WordPress.com Stats
    Top Commentators Widget
    TinyMCE Advanced
    Smart Youtube
    SexyBookmarks
    New Tag Cloud
    Google XML Sitemaps
    GD Star Rating
    FLV Embed
    DBC Backup
    Comment Approved Notifier
    Clean Archives Reloaded
    Broken Link Checker
    Akismet
    µAudio Player

Do you know of any problems with the above plugins?

I would also like to use… but not because of the problems the following:

    WordPress Database Table Optimizer
    Search Tags
    Revision Control
    Move Comments
    Delete-Revision

I would really like to use the database optimizer and the revision control… but afraid of more problems… do you know if they are safe?

    Your thoughts are appreciated..

    Thank You..

You sure have some mouth! I could go through each plugin explaining why and how they are needed, but really that is none of your business. I only posted them in case you knew of an issue with one of them and GD star rating. In that case I would either have to quit using GD star rating or find a replacement plugin for the one causing a problem…

But as usual you had no help – only your smart !?!?!? remark.

I am sorry, but I can’t test with every plugin (I mean in general), there are too many of them, and most of them are not even supported. Most plugins are badly written with disregard to many WordPress conventions and rules and so many of them can cause problems (and they do).

Hi Milan, firstly thank you for a great plugin that has so many features.

On my wordpress page I call the star ratings twice. First loop calls it automatically through the_content(); function. Works great, fantastic.

    Second loop, i use:

This appeared to be working fine, but when I added a few ratings so that the value was no longer a whole number, the stars would not display. In this second loop, only whole numbers 1 to 5 display. If the value is 4.5 or anything with a decimal, it will only display the text in Firefox and in other browsers displays a missing image icon. Am I doing something wrong? You can see what is happening at http://www.rodetv.com

    Thanks for you time mate.

    Kind regards, Ming.

Oops, just realised it didnt like the php i typed in…

I use the “wp_gdsr_show_article_rating” function in that second loop.
    wp_gdsr_show_article_rating($post_id = 0,$use_default=false,$size=12,$style=”oxygen”,$echo=true)

Also I forgot to mention that I discovered the problem in version 1.8.7 and then upgraded to 1.8.8 and same issue.

Great plugin! (After a lot of hours reading)

I am trying to create posts with multistarrating blocks using TDO Mini Forms. I use “wp_gdsr_render_multi();” when creating my post. It renders the block fine and automatically grabs the right category and default template. However for some reason it doesn’t recognize what post it belongs to. It says 0 in the div where the postID should be.

What could I be doing wrong?

    Any ideas?

    (I am a total newb)

Thank you for a very useful plug-in!

    Wrong forum.

The above post is in the wrong forum. It should be in TDO Mini Forms forums not GDSRs. The function works perfectly. The problem is that TDMF executes the function before the post is created. I need to figure out how to append PHP to the post using TDMF wihout executing the function on submission.

Thanks again for a very good plug-in!

Love this plug-in. I use it on several sites. I am having trouble with one site however. I had to change the sites CSS and now the stars rollover renderings are not aligned with the original star images. Here is a page of what I’m talking about http://headinthecloudsconsulting.com. Any ideas of how to adjust this? Can I edit the GD plug-in CSS? Every-time I try to adjust that file it says it’s inactive and I’ve also selected the appropriate boxes in the options area of the panel for linking a CSS file. Any ideas? Thanks, Derel

Don’t modify plugins CSS file, it’s not only CSS. Whatver you need to change add into your theme file.

I have your plugin working fine on my site but it makes some of the pictures on my post disappear sometimes on reload.

Do you know what could be the problem?

I know you must be thinking that it’s a problem with my theme but i am using the default theme from wordpress itself. The blog appears quickly on internet explorer without any issues but on firefox it takes a few more second to load and then some images sometimes fail to load or disappear the loading is over. I think it’s a script issue.

Let me know your thought please.

No idea what the problem can be. Plugin has nothing that can cause something like that. The only thing that comes to mind is that some other plugin and interaction with GDSR is doing this, but no one else ever reported something like that, and I sure have to way of reproducing the problem.

Am also puzzled by this. I have no other plugins activated. I could give you the link so that you can see for yourself if you’re interested. Just let me know and I will email it to you. Works fine in internet explorer so i thought it could be a script compatibility issue… Well, i’ll keep on looking for hints.

I was running the error console from firefox on my site and it found two warnings coming from gdstarratings in the gdsr.css.php:

          .loader. { background: url(../gfx/loader/.gif) no-repeat left; padding-left: px; }
          .loader..width { width: px; }

It seems that it could be the source of my problems. What do you think? Can I amend this?

            Heeeha!! I found the problem:

I had to deselect this option : Auto cache of the main CSS file enabled.

WHo would have thought that the cache could have been the issue! dam! 5 hours on this !! Now it loads extremely fast on firefox.

            pheeww, I can move on…

On the faq you talked about cache support and it says that You can use this option even if you don’t use cache plugin.

Anyhow, none of the issue mentionned in your doc or the faq related to me so it didn’t occur to me that it could be that. The plugin worked fine, it was just making some images disappear on firefox. Anyway, don’t worry about it. Thanks for the hard work you put in.

I upgraded to your recent plugin and everything is working perfectly except for when you go to edit a page and you have the gd star rating widget box in the top right corner. I can no longer access this when i click on the links it does nothing…

Before it used to drop down with other options, has something been overlooked in the code as i have looked at both of them via view source and the scripts are different.

I must say this is the first time I am using your plugin and I am very pleased with how well it works :)

The only little thing I would like to ask is would it be possible to have the plugin load the ui.17.css you use for the administration pages (Settings) only on your pages and not everywhere in the WordPress admin?

You see it “takes” over my theme options administration pages and messes with my styling :)

Would like to hear how you feel about the above so please do reply to this comment.
