New maintenance release is here. It addresses several WordPress 2.9 issues and post edit panel, caused by datepicker control, several minor bugs and also a problem with percentage value for thumbs when no votes are recorded. Some translations are updated.
I have tested plugin with latest WP 2.9.1 and no other issues except one with datepicker are found. I even run WP with only GD Star Rating and no other plugins, and everything works fine, even with WP debug mode active. So, if you have some more issues, please include error messages or more detailed description, because saying that’s not working is not helpful, and will not be enough to solve the problem.
More minor versions will be released as needed.

I’ve followed all your tutorials, but I could not get the comment to include the visitor’s rating – if a visor submits his vote together with the comment, the approved comment shows again 00000 and the vote result is gone somewhere (I don’t know where)… The visitor needs to see it’s own comment approved and than to vote again. I’m afraid it works the same way here: I can not submit my vote together with my comment, at least I can not see how to do this!
Your advise is much appreciated!

Cannot update automatically for wordpress 2.9.1. I use GD ver 1.8.0 now. The reason is Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1492404 bytes) in /public_html/myfolder/wp-includes/http.php on line 1363

The reason you get this message is because its a very large plugin. Its better to just update directly using FTP.

Installed your plugin but the GD Star rating widget doesn’t display. it shows the GD blog rating and the GD comment rating but not the GD Star rating widget. Any reason for this?

You need at least 2 votes by default. You can change the settings in the “Filter” of the widget to display with 1 vote.

Wow. So much has changed since I last used this and its all good! One thing frustrating me is I can’t find out how to remove thumb voting. I only want stars. Please point me in the right direction.

Hi! Thanks for the update.
Installed smoothly.
Question though. Tonight I tried to add a “toplist” of posts using shortcode for “starrating” as well as the widget, but no posts are listed.
I use Multi Ratings, and when setting at as data source the multi set I defined in settings show up nicely, but no data is displayed.
Unable to figure out where I go wrong.

Hello, I found a problem. I dislike the feature thumbs for posts, so I usually disable it and just keep the stars. So, when I go to: Settings -> Thumbs up Article and Disable it also the disable the stars. At the comments thumbs up this not happen. I think that maybe this is a bug?

I am using WP 2.9.1 and GD Stars Rating 1.8.1. Once activated, I cannot go to the plugin editor. Once I click on Plugins > Editor, I get the following message:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home4/kingwmco/public_html/wpb/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 278
So I had to disable it. Any suggestions?
The plugin looks really complicated for this newbie, but I would like to try it out. Thanks for your help.

I am doing that now. I posted the question before I saw the link for the FAQ. I tried to cancel the post but could not. I found the one that applies to me, but I don’t know how to make that change. You state what the problem is, but don’t offer a solution. Can you explain how to remedy the problem for someone that is NOT a developer? Thanks.

FAQ contains the solution and has nothing to do with user being developer or not, and also has nothing to do with plugin. And it says that you need to increase PHP available memory. There are many methods to do that and most involve your hosting.

Thanks for the response. “…and most involve your hosting.” is what I was looking for. I did not know where to go to change the setting. Now I know to call the hosting company (Bluehost).
They had me change the setting in the php.ini file.
memory_limit = 128M
I changed the 32M to a 128M, which is what Bluehost says is their maximum.
That solved the problem. Thanks again. I will rate the plugin after I have worked with it for a while. So far, looks pretty cool.

It seems as though rating.css is not being loaded. All of the settings are correct, I probably went over them 1000x. Is there something that I am missing for multireview modification of the standard CSS?

I made the changes as per the documentation online, and the default multi box settings still show. I am trying to have the box look blue, like in your example, but it just won’t work.
I guess I am looking forward to 2.0

That post is obsolete (and not removed). Styling and design is done with T2 templates. Take a look at some of the showcase websites and you can see that almost anything can be done.

Another issue, I just rated stars and thumbs as an anonymous visitor (without logging in). I was able to delete both ratings. When I went back to the blog post, the star rating had been adjusted correctly (though I still have the original error) but the thumb rating is still there. In other words, both the star and thumb ratings were deleted. While the stars rating was recalculated correctly, the additional thumb rating is still there. I like the plugin even though there seems to be a couple bugs. I don’t mean to bug you, but do you have any idea when you might have the update ready? Just curious if it would be a week, a month, a year…

I am having an issue with the average rating for a post. My wife left a comment and rated a posted, but she did not realize she was logged in as me. So, I deleted her comment. The ratings however were still there. Next, I went to the “All Users” menu and deleted the rating. This caused some sort of problem. I don’t know what happened, and there was an error message I did not read (please forgive me for this), and then I could not get to my site. It seems like I had accidentally blocked my IP address. I went to a different computer and entered the IP menu, second tab, “Banned”. There was nothing there, but I selected the “select all” check box anyway and clicked “unban selected”. That fixed my initial problem, I am now able to get back in. However, the post rating is not averaged correctly. There are two 6 ratings (clearly indicated as such in the “all users” menu), yet when you look at the post average rating on the post, is says there are 2 ratings for an average of 9, when it should be 6. It also says there are 3 thumbs up ratings when there should only be two. Here is the URL http://www.wpbernsen.com/blog/2010/02/government-welfare-is-not-charity (I apologize for the political content). I played around with the tools menu trying to clean up are recalc (not sure if that was the intent of those tools) but the rating is still incorrect. It almost looks like the ratings are still being used, even though I have deleted them. Any suggestions?

There is a bug in a plugin and also in WordPress that causes ratings saved with comments to not be deleted properly. I am trying to solve it, and as soon it’s done it will be released.

I am not sure. It’s not happening with every WP version, and not always. I am rewriting most of the plugin towards 2.0 release, and I that will help to find the error and correct it in current branch.

Sorry for posting my last comment in the wrong thread (look in the comment thread prior to this one). My wife just informed me that she is unable to recast her vote even though her initial vote and her comment was deleted. I am sure this is related. If I understand correctly, her vote is based on the IP address, right? So when I deleted the vote, it should have released the IP address so she could vote again. I just wanted to let you know in case it makes a difference. Thanks again.

Thanks again for your help. The Plugin looks awesome. I can’t wait to get into it a little further. For what it is worth, I blogged about it at http://www.wpbernsen.com/blog/2010/02/changing-the-memory-limit-for-a-single-php-process. You should get pinged, but I am not sure if your site accepts them.
