This is very important release for both new features and for several bugs fixed. I have fixed all reported issues since the previous release along with few bugs I noticed mostly with admin panels rarely used. And yeah, famous exceprt problem is now solved.
Excerpt problem solution is not very elegant, but the only way I found to solve it is to use backtrace PHP function to find out if the content call is from the excerpt functions. This also solves the accidental insertion of Rich Snippets code into the excerpts. Many more things are fixed, including problems with multi rating shortcode, some PHP libraries not loading, some moderation issues, problems with few integration functions, multi review problems with on page editor and CSS failing to load if you don’t select any thumb or stars sets.
I made some more improvements to generated CSS file and cleaned up javascript used for reviews on editor pages. Also, plugin fully supports SSL server configurations and you can use it if your website url stars with https://. Import and export of templates is fully rewritten and all new tools for that are added to T2 Templates panel.
But, the biggest new feature is added support for microformat version of Google Rich Snippets. More details are in the latest featured article, and I will also publish post on configuring this feature further in the next few days.
And, user guide is updated. As always, report any problems you may find.

I’m really pleased with the update, I was checking throughout the day for 1.7.4 as I really needed the T2 Templates Import/Export function.
With regards to this function it seems to be working, although I’ve not tested it fully yet. I do want to point out when I export a template using the “Export Own Templates” option it says it will be exported as .csv when in fact it is .txt. Also I do not have the option to delete or edit my imports – why is that?

Originally it was CSV, but due to new import, it has to be plain text and specially formated one. You can delete your own templates from the templates panel. As for editing, you can do that with the export file, because template is in PHP serialized format, and making changes to it will break it after import. Only way to edit templates is using the main templates panel.

Thanks again, this looks like a good update.
I have found a strange problem with the displaying of the ratings stars on Safari for the Mac.
For example on this page
http://landingpadba.com/category/restaurant-reviews/
the ratings stars on the top 3 restaurants display fine on every browser I have tested on apart from Safari 4 on the Mac.
I have tested Windows IE6, IE7, FireFox 3.5 and Mac Firefox 3 and Safari 4.
On Safari 4 for Mac the stars do not display even though the HTML validates and the URL of the image is valid.
This is very odd, any ideas?

Unfortunately I don’t have Mac, and I can’t test it with Safari on Mac. It’s unbelievable that Apple released Safari 4 on Windows and Mac, and that they are not even compatible. If anyone can find the problem on Safari4 for Mac, I will be happy to add that fix to the plugin. Beyond that I can’t do anything else.

Hi there and thanx for the plugin. I am witnessing a strange problem after i upgraded today to the latest version.
The rating stars are not visible in the frontpage while they are only visible if you click in each post.
I dunno if i made myself clear. For instance here in the frontpage (http://history-of-macedonia.com/wordpress/) i cant see any rating star. To the contrary here (http://history-of-macedonia.com/wordpress/2009/11/03/hellenic-migrations-and-katadesmosa-paradigm-of-macedonian-speech-historical-background/)i can see the rating stars just fine.
Sorry for the links. I know i am missing something but cant find out what exactly it is. If anyone can help i would be grateful.
I.

Hi people from GD Star!
You made a amazing plugin, and it’s so great!
But I always have the same type of problems.
I keep waiting a new release that will help me, but it never do.
I am really sad of giving up using this plugin.
My issue is always 2:
1) It dosn’t let me vote.
2) It mess up in the midle of the post.
This is a perfect example, it has both problems at once.
Is it possible to fix?

I love the star rating, but I can’t put it into individual products on my WP shopping products page. It just displays one star rating right over a product neat the top. Can I put a rating on each individual product? I’ve tried adding every type of rating shortcode in each individual product description box, but nothing (and the shortcode shows up on the published site). Any help? Also, is there a beginners WP guide on the net somewhere? Thanks

Guess what? It did’t killed anything. If you get message that PHP run out of memory, solution is very simple: increase the memory. This is very common issue due to increased memory requirements of WordPress.

Hello there. I am very excited to use your plugin however I am having a tough time getting it to show the stars on a default install of the plugin.
I installed GD Star Ratings 1.7.4 on a brand new 2.8.5 wp located here http://www.supersellernetwork.com/uncategorized/hello-world
It was the second plugin I have installed.
any idea what may be wrong?
I am a bit confused. I created a multi ratings review set and see it listed in the article edit screen but there is no star for me to set my review rating for that article.
I don’t see stars loaded in the admin article edit page and in the full view of a post. I am able to see images in the graphics area of the plugin.
I tested on several themes including the default theme and I have the same issues on each theme.
I have read through many posts here and the faq to find an answer prior to this post.
Please advise what I should try next.
Thanks,
Richard Wing

I don’t see that GDSR is active on your website at all. Also, when I first tried to go to the url you provided, I got an error message about memory. You definitively need to increase PHP memory, 32M is not enough for WP 2.8 and newer.

I deactivated it. Thinking I wasn’t going to be able to hire someone to get this working for me.
I used your plugin GD PRESS TOOLS and allocated 64 MB memory. I turned on the ratings plugin and went to the post and selected my multi ratings review i previously created. I see it as set id 1 with the set name and all the options I set up for my multi rating. but I see no way to select what I want each rating to be. There is no star selection showing for me to select anything.
Can I give you access to my admin to check it out?

I said many times that FAQ contains answers to almost all problems, and that includes your problem. But you need to know how to use Firebug or some similar debug tool. In your case, both main javascript (script.js.php) and css (gdsr.css.php) are not loading. This is happening almost always because of invalid server settings, or invalid access rights (and that is in the FAQ).

Had the same problem on the new articles.
The difference was this:
Old tag
[starreviewmulti id=1 tpl=29 element_size=12 average_size=12]
New tag
[starreviewmulti id=1 tpl=29 element_size='12' average_size='12']
The old works the new doesn’t. Get rid of the ‘ on element_size and average_size.
I have no idea why this was working before and now it isn’t. It seems that the gfx.php that returns the stars image does not like the ‘ anymore

It was the only difference between the old posts that worked and the new ones (2).
I looked at the URL’s in Firebug and did the change. It worked without them.
It could be an implementation thing specific for my system, but I don’t think so. gfx.php is not liking the parameters with quotes I suppose.
Anyway, thanks for a great plugin that I use for sometime now.

That’s almost impossible and points to badly coded theme. On this website, for a single post with 30 comments (with ratings), plugin adds 7 queries. On other site that shows 20 posts with ratings on front page, adds 9 queries. Plugin is HIGHLY optimized and uses internal caching to minimize queries.

First I had the Problem, that I only had the “Loading…”-image in my Posts after having upgraded from 1.7.3 to 1.7.4. I fixed this with deactivating the cache-support.
But now I have the problem, that you can’t vote (see: http://www.sms-guide.de/). I cann see the red stars while I am over the voting stars, but after a “klick” nothing happens. I wasn’t a problem before the updade

Hello!
I’m trying to use this sophisticated and awesome plugin, but with no success.
How to place the stars directly under the header of a post? And make them to be displayed on the main page of wordress and the post page (the same review rating)?
http://img188.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=postpage.jpg
I’ve tried to do that manually and by using subheader plugin from wordpress plugins directory, but it didn’t help.
May you explain how to do it?
Cheers,
Tom

Hi,
I’ve tried hard and I’ve read the manuals before so I read them again, but it didn’t help me. I still don’t know how to do it. I’ve found this function:
wp_gdsr_show_article_review ( $ post_id = 0,
$ use_default = true,
$ size = 20,
$ style = “oxygen”,
$ echo = true
)
If I paste it somewhere is it going to display the ratings on the post page and on the main page as well?
2. CSS problem. I’ve managed to center the thumb as well as the text under it on the post page here
But by no means I’m unable to eliminate this huge white space between the text. This is the effect of markup when after I had translated T2 template.
Is there any way to bring it to normal?
And next question, is it possible (how?) to display one part of this text over the thumb, and the other under it?
Keep up the good work. This plugin becomes more and more usable and easy to use. I’ve also noticed that you’ve repaired something in the templates so it started to work on my site. Great and thanks.
Cheers,
Tom

Millan, I’m very sorry to bother you with this probably already solved question, but I’ve yet found no clue to it in yours articles.
I’ve posted about it in bug reports, but it is not solved in the latest plugin update.
This template:
%RANK_ID%%TITLE%%AUTHOR_NAME%%STARS%%VOTES%
is shown well on standard rating results, but shows blank space for %AUTHOR_NAME% when displaying my nulti rating results…
