GD Star Rating 1.7.0 is now released. It has several new features, many fixes and updates from the previous 1.6.9. Most important changes include full cache plugins support, removed support for WP 2.6 and added many more filters and actions.
So, if you want to use this and all other future versions, you need to at least WordPress 2.7. As I said before, it’s very hard to maintain code that works on old WP versions, and WP 2.6 support had to go. WP 2.7 will be supported at least until WP 3.0 is released, and that is still almost a year away (maybe even more).
Many bugs are now fixed and this includes fixed import from WP-Post Ratings plugin, some invalid shortcodes values, minor rendering problems, some category based management problems and few other things. JavaScript code is cleaned and improved and some functions re-factored. Shared libraries are updated, some of the shortcodes are improved and more parameters are added. Builder is improved to support additional parameters. Category based management is upgraded and easier to use for comment integration. Multi ratings now support cache plugins. Many more new filters and actions are added for various uses, results and rendering.
I will announce plans for the next 1.8 milestone that will be targeted for early december release. As usual there will be several minor releases until than. So, leave your comments, bug reports (I prefer that they go to issue tracker) and suggestions.

Thankyou very much! This is now letting me show the ratings by shortcode, on any old page, I had to go ahead and add the post id parameter to the starrater and make it read only like: [starrater tpl=10 post=26 read_only=1]. But works a treat on first look.
Appreciate all your hardwork and this plugin, and ill try not to clog up your comments with more mindless points. Feel free to delete this at will (like you need permission eh! -)
Cheers again sir.

Congratulation agian.
Sure this is not a bug. Sure I did something wrong, but why this is show in my frontpage post?
UN:F [1.7.0_948]Vota este artculo y si has probado este producto vtalo tambinpor favor espera…Puntuación: 0.0/10 (0 votos).
And in configuration menu, and in multi tab, I add a header voting title and it does not show.
Any help.
Thanks in advance

I’ve tried the new feature “Comment Integration” under the Categories section and I am wondering if its also possible to turn Comment Integration off on individual pages and not only categories. In your plugin I’ve found it only for categories but what about pages?
Could not find anything about this in your tutorials so I hope this question is legitimate.

Right now pages are problem because they can’t be classified like the posts. But, I am redesigning some of the panels, and similar to categories to control integration same thing will be added on post/page level.

can you already say when you plan to release the comment integration filter for pages?
without it the plugin is more or less useless for me.

Just a heads up, I just updated to 1.7.0 and it looks like the “please wait” graphic on thumbs up/down and star ratings hangs there in Firefox 3.5.3. MS IE 7 is not effected though. Otherwise works great and keep up the excellent work.

That’s because Firefox is the piece of s**t. Many extensions can interfere with page rendering, and some of them can cause JavaScript errors. Plugin is compatible with every major browser available, but I can’t test what hundreds of extensions can mess in Firefox.

Well.. you’re right. Tested in Firefox “safe mode” and it works. Looks like it is indeed an extension on my end. Appreciate the heads up and I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future retro-testing.

Hi!
I just installed your great plugin, and my intention is to use it only for post authors to set a review using a multi set.
I managed to set up everything, and create the multi set, but when I am editing a post and try to set a value for the items in the multi set none of the stars “stick”. Nothing is saved.
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a problem with me trying to use the plugin in this way?

Hello, thanks for the update. However, I am still unable to import my WP Post Ratings…do I need to initiate the upload somehow?
Thanks!

There is import panel. But if there is no import button for that plugin, import needs to be reset from setup panel.

suggestion: how about context relevant widget, so if you are looking at a post in category A for example, the ratings shown in the widget are specific to that category..

Good idea I will add it to the list.

you mention new filters in this release…. Im not sure if that means filters such as the ones in this post:
http://www.gdstarrating.com/2009/07/03/how-to-reorder-posts/
I am using the sorting capabilities mentioned in the above post for both review and rating but am wondering what other new options are available now… Is there any list? I couldn;t find anything in the manual either about all possible options for this. The above post is all I could find.
If I missed any other post about this, would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

I meant wordpress filters. As for post/query elements for reordering, list and values are in the info files with the plugin.

yea… you released 1.7 and ALL my ratings went to hell. I had a multi-review(5 options) and a multi-rating(2 options) on each page, and now all I can get is TWO multi-review’s, but the other one, I can sometimes vote.
when you release things, make sure you’re doing it right!

I test each release (including 1.7). I have two very complex (rating wise) tests websites, one of them with 9 multi ratings in a post (some review) and it was working fine. BUT, sometimes some settings can get screwed due to upgrade settings problem (WordPress fault), and I have stated many times before: after each upgrade, check all settings including wigdets.
Also, I don’t quite understand what the problem is in your case, so if you can explain better how can rating turn into review only sometimes.

How do I put a line break between stars and vote averages text?
It currently looks like this:
(STARS) Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)
I want it to look like this:
(STARS)
Rating: 0.0/5 (0 votes cast)
I have no idea which file to edit, I tried editing the T2 template in settings but of no avail. I am lost here can any one help ?

Default templates can’t be edited. You need to duplicate template, and than use it. This is covered in tutorials already.

I’ve been enjoying GD Star Ratings – excellent tool for interacting with my show’s listeners.
In my posts, I insert the following line:
[starratingmulti id=9]
And it would insert the Star Ratings in my post. I have several different multi sets built, each with a specific number of elements lines, which I pick and choose from depending on the number of songs in my show, and I change the ID number as needed.
I’m running into problems, though – I upgraded to version 1.7 this week, and the ratings line I’ve been using doesn’t seem to work any more. It’s only showing 6 rating elements, regardless of which multi-set I choose, and it’s only allowing for 5 stars, even though my rating sets are all set for 10.
In addition, it doesn’t seem to be loading the previous ratings people have entered.
Is this a import/export issue? Or a cache issue?
Looking forward to getting this back up and running – thanks for your help!

hi, The plugin is good and works great. However the features seems a little bit too complicated. Anyway I have spend sometime figuring out and managed to insert just the basic rating block on the post and a “read-only” mini block on the main page. I also insert the results widget on the sidebar, and everything works perfectly, with the widget showing the posts with the votes in order. But I need the widgets to also show up the images attached to the post. I have edit the settings in the “image” option, filling in the correct image size in “Resize Image:” field, and set the “custom field” in the “Get Image From:” field. And the “Custom Field:” is “image” with is the exact field that I have used for the images in my post. But the images don’t show up. Nt sure where goes wrong. Would appreciate if you could help to advise on this.. Thanks..

The shortcode for article review does not seem to be working – It leaves an incomplete block. I looked through the faq and tested this on several browser types to no avail. Everything else seems to be working, just the review is busted.
Thanks for an awesome plugin at any rate!

Hi,
Due to an incompatibility between GDSR 1.7.2 and PHP 4.4.8, I must use of GDSR 1.7.0 and it works fine.
But sometime, instead of the 5 stars with a vote for each post, I have the message “GD Star Rating, a WordPress rating system” with 1 star ! Does a user have already encountered this trouble ???
See this screenshot : http://www.monsterup.com/upload/1256478605918.jpg

The message you get is meant only for search engines, because they don’t have any use for ratings. But, this is combination of two bugs, one in GD Star Rating and the other is usually problem with most cache plugins that also fail to recognize search bots. On GD Star Rating part, this is fixed in 1.7.2, and everything works fine with cache plugins I have tested.

And one more thing. Plugin works fine with PHP 4.4.8. I have tested it using WAMP Server on Windows. I tried PHP 4.4.8 and PHP 4.4.9, and on both of them GDSR 1.7.2 works.

Hi,
every day this plugin is getting better.. Just one suggestion, it would be nice to have an option to change the rating text color in the thumbs block.. for example votes showing (+) values in green and (-) values in red.. not really important, but it would be nice.. thank you very much for everything.
