GD Star Rating 1.6.9

Thumbnail for GD Star Rating 1.6.9

Well, few more loose ends needed to be tied up, so one more version before 1.7.0 is released. This version adds few more minor new features for widgets and results filters, upgrades the database installation and fixes several bugs and PHP warnings.

Database upgrade procedure is now upgraded, and there will be no more SQL errors when the plugin is upgraded. These errors were not actually important and can be ignored, but it’s good to remove all errors. Plugin now checks before executing alter or drop for columns or tables. Number of warnings are now fixed, and this goes also for all noticed PHP 5.3 deprecated warnings. If you find some more, please report them.

I have also added several new filters, this time to modify the output returned to browser after saving the votes for stars related rating. Widget and results are expanded with new setting for minimal number of posts used for results if the grouping results feature is used.

And again: I have updated FAQ on the website and in the readme.txt. Check it before reporting bugs.

That’s it for now. Report bugs or upgrade problems before 1.7 is released. And that will most likely happen in the next 3-4 days.

This is the last plugin version that will work in WordPress 2.6.x. GD Star Rating 1.7.0 will require at least WordPress 2.7.

    hey milan,

    the gdstarrating is one of the few plugin which are a pain to update.
    why does it delete the custom starsets if update automaticly.

    everything else is fine.

      Well, you got it wrong. This is in fact the only plugin out there that will allow customization and than not loose it after update. You just using it wrong. If you bothered to read tutorials on this website, very first tutorial is about adding custom stars sets to the plugin and avoid them being deleted after auto-update.

      When WP upgrades the plugin, it deletes the plugin entirely from plugins folder. And anything you might added there will be gone. And this is pretty much common knowledge. So GD Star Rating has something else implemented to prevent this, and here is the tutorial: http://www.gdstarrating.com/2009/01/21/installing-additional-sets/

    I want to report bug (I think):

    I’ve installed your plugin then played a bit with it and I’ve created 3 multitemplates reviews and then deleted them because I wanted to create another one.

    Each of them was assigned different ID and it was fine but then it happened: I can’t instert new mutli reviews in the editor :)

    I’ve made two screenshots:

    How to solve this problem?

      I can’t reproduce this problem. Maybe database table is not created properly.

        I’ve uninstalled the plugin and deleted it completely. Then I’ve manually removed all the tables correspoding to this plugin using phpAdmin. Then I’ve installed plugin again and… I was able to add new templates however this time no templates appear in dropdown menu in the tiny editor, when I want to insert it into the post. It seems like some kind of link between multireviews templates and this editor is broken. So I had to unistall plugin, manually clean up the tables and I think I have to say goodbay to this nice plugin, as it is not usable anymore.

          Sorry to hear that. But there is no way to predict how different plugins will influence other plugins and what problems can occur, and I can’t guarantee that GD Star Rating will work on every WordPress setup. In 99.9% of all blogs plugin is working fine. My stats point that there are 25000 blogs using this plugin, and so far on only 20-30 blogs plugin has failed to work.

    Has the forum gone? Can’t see a link

    Has anyone ever had a problem with 503 errors on the ajax.php voting request? On my main PC i don’t get a vote response in Firefox but the vote is registered so i can see the stars when i refresh

    It all works fine in the other browsers, in Firefox on another PC and on Mac so something strange on my browser i guess. Have upgraded to the latest version but doesnt seem to help and tried disabling Firebug

    I want to get a result from a specific page (not post). (missing feature?)

    say I have page A, B, C

    now I want to display on page A the rating result from page B (but not C).
    But how can I get it? I tried it with the shortcode “Results: StarRating” and the filter. but the problem is that you only can filter categories and not pages. I even tried to use the “category pages plugin” to asign a page to a category but I did not help.
    I have also looked through your forum and tutorials but could not find any information on this.
    Is this a missing feature or am I just too stupid for this?

    Hi,
    I’ve installed your plugin with just one problem.
    The graphics i.e. stars & thumbs up take a while to load.
    Is this a database issue ?.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    I’m sure I’ve seen an answer somewhere, but can’t find it again.
    Thankyou for an excellent plug-in.

        The plugin is set to way it was installed. I have’nt changed anything.

          I can confirm this. It’s actually on this side as well. After the page has fully loaded I get everywhere you have a rating a “GD Star Rating Loading…” After the page is loaded it takes about 1-4 seconds before I see the ratings.
          I am using Firefox.

            People, is it so hard to read announcements? Few version back I have added cache plugin support (WP Super Cache and others), and an option to control loading of ratings. With this option ON, plugin is not adding rating blocks into the page, but is loading ratings using ajax from server to keep them actual. And while is loading, there is a small loading message. If you don’t use cache plugins or you don’t care about this feature: DISABLE IT. It’s a first checkbox on the settings page, and has a long explanations. Question is why did you enabled it in the first place?

      This has nothing to do with thumb ratings, and can be ignored because it’s a one time thing and has no effect. MySQL us usually set to ignore such errors, but yours isn’t. Plugin tries to add primary key, and because it’s already there, nothing happens to the database, and MySQL returned an error. And this happened with multis table, and that, again has nothing to do with thumbs.

    Listen I’m really sorry I’m completely clueless and using your rating system in a very basic way, and have searched and can’t find an answer to a simple question:

    For the thumb rating buttons, how do I edit the label saying “Rating: +2″? I want to change it to something else like, “Blogometer:”

    Thank you so much,

    Hello Brother, i’ve installed gd star rating on my site, i can not go through with it

    My target is to show rating(multi rating) result in a page of the article of a category. I want to show result in a table….

    I have putted those code to a new page:

    Title
    Votes
    Rating

    %RANK_ID%%TITLE%%VOTES%%STARS%

    And putted this style on rating.css :

    .tplresults { width: 100%; border: 1px solid gray; }
    .tplresults img { padding: 0; background: none; margin: 0; border: none; }
    .tplresults thead td { background-color: gray; color: white; font-weight: bold; padding: 2px 5px; }
    .tplresults .rank { text-align: center; width: 20px; }
    .tplresults .votes { text-align: center; }

    It’s showing a table and i can’t go through more then.
    Can you help me by writing step by step process

      That’s because you are using it wrong (from what I can see). You can’t add plugin specific %TAGS% into post, they are for templates system built in plugin. Check the FAQ and tutorials.
