To add to the above.
For some reason, the “Settings” option is not showing in the admin panel in either 1.6.6 or 1.6.7
I am using WordPress 2.8.4
Not sure if this is GD Star compatibility issue with the latest version or something else on my side…

Any timeframe for the release of the new version?
To be honest, except for the “IP situation”, GD Star is truly the most versatile and usable rating plugin.

Displaying IP’s to admin only would be a very useful security feature.

Widget has over 20 parameters to set, so just adding it is usually not a good idea, and you need to set things for it. Go to widgets panel, and modify whatever you need.

My widget shows nothing, I found in the FAQ, said “Most likely problem is with default widget setting to show only posts with 5 votes or more.”, can I change this default value? Thanks.

Even without caching plugin is not slowing websites by much. Plugin is already caching all data from the database once the page starts loading. But, depending on the theme and the way theme gets data, this might not be a big gain, so the cache plugin support will be better.

REALLY looking forward to the ajax update so that my ratings work with caching. Site is so slow currently :/

No, everything is fine. But my guess is that you have memory problems. WP 2.8 uses much more memory than previous version, and this has been discussed many times on many WP related blogs. So, try increasing PHP memory to at least 40MB.
