Still lacking free time for new plugin features, but still enough time to improve existing features, plugin speed up and optimizations. This time changes are in installation, plugin loading, database tables collation and lower memory usage.
Database installation is improved and now all tables will get default collation, the same as the rest of WordPress default tables. Also, during the upgrade, plugin will alter all own tables to set proper collation. This is very important for users using Cyrillic or Chinese languages. Some users were making those changes manually, but now plugin will take care of that. Plugin loading is improved, some of the files cleaned and some removed. Also, ajax rating has gone through major changes, and now needs much less memory and also is faster by some 15% – 20% depending on the rating type.
Hopefully all the changes made in this version will not break anything, I did a lot of testing, but it’s possible that I have missed something. So, if you find any problem, please register with issue tracker and report the bug. Good news is that number of reported bugs in the last month was very low, and that’s really a good thing, plugin is very stable.
New features are coming soon, and first major thing will be support for all popular cache plugins.

Hi MillaN,
For some reason the Star and Thumb rating appears on my posts & pages; however, nothing happens when visitors click on it.
Can you help me?
Thanks.

Hi,
it seems like I can’t update the Plugin with the WordPress Plugin-Page.
Is there anything I need to do, before I upgrade?

No, everything is fine. But my guess is that you have memory problems. WP 2.8 uses much more memory than previous version, and this has been discussed many times on many WP related blogs. So, try increasing PHP memory to at least 40MB.

Thanks for the upgrade. It all works flawlessly.
REALLY looking forward to the ajax update so that my ratings work with caching. Site is so slow currently :/

Even without caching plugin is not slowing websites by much. Plugin is already caching all data from the database once the page starts loading. But, depending on the theme and the way theme gets data, this might not be a big gain, so the cache plugin support will be better.

Hi there,
My widget shows nothing, I found in the FAQ, said “Most likely problem is with default widget setting to show only posts with 5 votes or more.”, can I change this default value? Thanks.

Widget has over 20 parameters to set, so just adding it is usually not a good idea, and you need to set things for it. Go to widgets panel, and modify whatever you need.

This may be the wrong place to ask this question, but do you have any non WordPress ratings scripts available for regular websites?

Hi Milan,
Thank you for a great plugin.
I have a question: is there an option not to show voters’ IP-addresses in non-admin users’ GD Star Rating “My Ratings”?
Cheers.

No, but that’s good idea, and I will add this as a option in next version.

Any timeframe for the release of the new version?
To be honest, except for the “IP situation”, GD Star is truly the most versatile and usable rating plugin.
Displaying IP’s to admin only would be a very useful security feature.

Depending on the speed of testing of new cache plugins support. Most likely middle of the next week.

To add to the above.
For some reason, the “Settings” option is not showing in the admin panel in either 1.6.6 or 1.6.7
I am using WordPress 2.8.4
Not sure if this is GD Star compatibility issue with the latest version or something else on my side…
