GD Star Rating 1.6.4

Thumbnail for GD Star Rating 1.6.4

Another week and another version of GD Star Rating. Again, mostly updates and fixes, but this time there are few new things added. Unfortunately, I still have very little free time, so development of this plugin will be slow for the next few weeks.

I have fixed several notices and warning, cleaned up the admin panels code a bit, fixed some integration problems and functions used to get data for blog rating widget.

Templates are again improved. Thumb templates got the new tag for percentage value of the rating. Filters and actions for templates are improved also, and next version will add content filters to all rendering functions and all template types so you can use that for even more customization you might need.

Again, I would like to remind you about my new website TVScape.NET that opened almost two. Check the integration and rating results pages added to see what can be done with the GD Star Rating using templates, advanced filters and CSS. Also, you can check the website showcase here.

    Thanks for the great plugin!

The only issue I’m having is with sorting. If I sort by rating, is it possible to have the highest rated post first but also the one with the most votes? For example, a 5 star post with 10 ratings should appear before a 5 star with only 5 ratings. At the moment it just puts the 5 stars together but in no particular order. Apologies if this has already been addressed, but I can’t find a solution anywhere.

It’s the SQL that is doing the sorting. I will try to modify the query and add additional sorting by votes.

I dont know if in here i can post this. Any way I will. ;)

It seems that there is a minor bug in the GD Star Rating last version, the thing is when I set up in the config section in the predefined values of voting for comments, it just configures that everyone can vote, so in the post edit section in the side bar I have to change that value to, for example, Just Users.

So if this helps a little then I’ll be more happy, than I am with the plugin.

If this is not the place to post this, please feel free to delete it, and tell me where should I on my e-mail. So if I encounter another thing, (I hope not :) then I’ll post it there.

Thank you, very much, for your patience and understanding.

    Hi MillaN,

    Thx for the plugin.

Do you know if you’re any closer to solving the problem with the category rankings? I’d like to know if you found the solution to this issue or if you consider the matter is sorted?

    Thank you.

I don’t know if that will help you solve the matter,
but when I set up the category ranking, at first the ranking looks “kind of” ok. But it seems that as time goes on, and perhaps as new votes are registered, the rankings deterioates itself and categories that should be there aren’t there anymore. They only reappear when I increase the ranking from a top 10 to a top 20 for example.

It seems that you’re tired of me but I hope this helps :)

Well, what can I do with that then? Category ratings are ALWAYS recalculated only on need to basis, and they are always current. I don’t know what I can do with that. I use aggregated ratings on many websites and it works on all of them without a problem.

I don’t know, I am just trying to help or find a solution because it seems that you don’t see any obvious problems with it.

I understand that the ratings are current, you’re absolutely right with that, the ratings are calculated properly. It’s the rankings that are faulty, at least on my side.

I am left wondering why there are discrepencies in the rankings between a top 10 and a top 20 for example. The top 10 in a top 20 is different from the actual top 10; with all other settings unchanged.

If you could tell me what could be the cause of this that would be great but it seems the problems is in the way the info is retrieved from the DB. Am not a DB expert so I can’t tell you what exactly, I was hoping you or someone else could help.
I have hundreds of categories so I thought the widget had problems retrieving the ratings from the DB due to the huge number of categories.

I think I am going to leave you alone with this problem because I don’t want to antagonise you. You must be busy and you’re working hard as I can see.

Well, I’ll keep on updating the plugin or read some of the comments over here in the hope that someone comes up with a reason or a solution.

Thank you! No hard feelings btw :)

Hi there, I really love your plugin, it is exactly what I have been looking for, but there seems to be a little problem.

I have read through this entire site and searched Google and couldn’t find anything, maybe I missed it or something and if so I apologize.

I cannot seem to get [starreview] to work, over on the right side of the new post page, where you’re supposed to set the value of the “post review” it only gives me the option to select “0”

    Screen cap: http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/AnonymousNut1/?action=view&current=untitled.jpg

Am I missing something or is this a bug? Any help would be appreciated.

Since I am sure that this works just fine, problem is with your settings (as with 95% of other reports). Check the settings for post and review values set there.

I repeated this many, many times. One post/page can have one standard active rating block and one multi rating block for each set. So if you have one set, that set can be added only once on a post. If you have 10 sets, each can be added only once again.

Hello. I have a blog I installed this on, but will not post the link to it due to its content.

In short, I am trying to wrap the text of a post around a video, and I was able to do it with a float attribute, but it leaves the stars only on the left, right on top of the video player. All the other contents of the Star System are aligned properly, except for the stars themselves. Please email me at the email provided so I can send you the link to the post I have in question (its only 1 that I’ve tried this on so far)

You need to modify the styles so that the alignment is changed. Use Firebug or something similar to get exactly what element should be overridden.

I am assuming firebug will tell me what file calls for the stars themselves, and what file aligns them?

And you asking something like this tells me that you are not experienced in this level of modification. Using Firebug and changing something like this requires a fairly good knowledge of HTML/CSS.

I admit I am nowhere near advanced, I would say maybe on a 1 to 10 scale, a 4 with knowledge. I know how to change things to the way I want them, if I don’t know I have learned google is my friend. Asking something like that signifies that I have never used firebug, but hey why not experiment with it.

Okay so I was able to figure out where to add my float: right; attribute, and thats in gdsr.css.php(the one inside the plugin folder), BUT, my change is not saving for some reason, I refresh and everything and the same exact thing is still in that line of css in firebug, but its fine when I check it via FTP.

Here is the modification instructions of you would like to move the stars and everything from being aligned left to aligned on the right side of a post. In my specific case, I embed a video in each post I make, and wrap text around the videos. When I wrapped the text, the star images would stay aligned left until I found out what to modify.

In your WP root folder, go to wp-content/plugins/gd-star-rating/css and open gdsr.css.php in a text editor such as Notepad++. On line 229, which starts as “.ratingblock, .thumblock { “. In that line, find:

    margin-top: 4px;

    After, add:

    float: right;

This will move it all from the left to the right side of the post. And in my situation I also added width: 300px; text-align: center; so everything is centered on the right side of the post.

I think this is clear, but if its confusing, the developer has permission (obviously) to change my wording to make it clearer.

Hopefully this helps out people like me who got confused!!!

ONCE AGAIN: Do not modify gdsr.css.php, that\s not the way it should be done. If you need something overridden from it, add that to the theme style.css.

That can be done, because WordPress is loading all active plugins on every page. I designed plug so that featres can be disabled on each post or page individually through settings.

Hi. Thanks for spending the time on this plugin.

Just wondering-is there a way to selectively delete votes? I had a spammer come through and rate several posts low–4 votes in about 18 seconds–so I feel OK about purging them.

I banned the IP, but can’t find a way to pull those particular votes out.

    Thanks,

Hi, I have used the previous versions of the plugin and there is no issue. In fact, they work perfectly and better than other review plugins.

Recently, I set up another new site with the new 1.6.4 plugin and somehow there are no stars appearing.

Any idea how this could be the problem?

Despite looking at every option I cannot discover how to remove the vote number next to the Widget output on the main blog page. In other words, I voted one of my posts simply to show the “Highest Rated” section on my blog. Right now it reads: “10.0: Hello world! (1 vote)” My request is how to remove the part which says (1 vote)? I only want the rating number average and article name to show, not the vote number. How do I remove it? Thank you for your help! :o )

I’ve read the FAQ, the PDF manuals, and gone through the admin settings with a fine toothed comb – more than once – and over several days. I cannot find anything on how to remove this number. Some of the wording is difficult to understand because the English isn’t correct.
