TVScape.NET Progress

Thumbnail for TVScape.NET Progress

Well, I have almost completed work on my new website called TVScape.NET. Initial announcement is still available here. This time I will show few screenshots with some of the customizations done for this website. Site will go live next week.

Website will feature 4 different themes to choose at any time, and I will add more themes every few weeks. Each theme changes the header and all the website colors. First set of themes will be based on TV shows Farscape, The West Wing and Firefly. Chosen theme will be saved in the cookie so it will be used until you change it or delete the cookie. But, now I would like to show you some of the details, not the whole website. Let’s leave the theme switching a secret for now.

Post Details

Each review will rely on using custom taxonomies. Actors, creators, country and few other things will be stored and used as taxonomies. On the right you can see a details for first season of Farscape. Taxonomies will be used for ratings and navigation.

Post Ratings

For each post I will add a review using multi ratings. Also, users can rate each post using thumbs ratings. Both stars and thumbs used on this website are exclusive for TVScape and will not be available for download or included with GD Star Rating plugin.

Ratings results will be displayed using the widgets and number of pages with different results tables. Results will be based on posts but also on taxonomies for aggregation. Some of the things used for customization done with TVScape.NET are not yet part of the GD Star Rating, but they will be when 1.6.0 is released on Sunday.

Ratings Results

As a preview, here is the screenshot of the rendered results using T2 rendering with custom tags and filters.

Custom tags will be a part of the 1.6.0, along with image resizing (small image for each of the ratings). Custom tags and filter are used to add season details bellow the title. As you can see, if used correctly T2 templates are very powerful. Unfortunately, not everyone can do such customizations, because that requires good knowledge of HTML and CSS. New features like custom tags and filters will require PHP and WordPress core knowledge. There is no easy way for me to write simple tutorials on all that advanced topics, because they are not simple.

So, TVScape.NET will go live sometime next week. I will publish more details and examples from the website next week after I complete some of the things still missing.

Am looking to do a review website about restaurants… I don’t know if your script could be used for that but I much would you charge for doing this?

GD Star Rating is rating and review plugin, and it can be used to make review website out of the box. I offer my services to customize theme, make rendering templates for plugin, tweak things so that review, rating, results or widgets look the way you want them. Some elements of the plugin rely on knowledge of HTML/CSS and PHP, so less experienced user can have trouble etting the most from the plugin. Check the Premium Support page for more details.

    Good luck with the site.

I am also setting up a review site and I am wondering what template we should be using for multi_rating_average. I tried 19 with no luck, and I dident see any others that would fit.

Also when I add the thumb to the comment and click it, it disappears. It seems to work fine in the posts. This is no big deal just thought Id let ya know.

More curious about how to use a template with multi average. I want to display the text with it.

    Thanks for a great plugin.

Best is to create template you want, with all elements you need. Trying out only preinstalled templates is not good solution if you need something specific like this.

Do you have a list of tags that can be used to generate the multi result/ average result?

I am finding that when I create my own templates I get blank stars as the result. However when I leave it default it works, but is plain.

I have read your articles on the templates but I am not sure which tags to use.

All template tags supported works, I use that all the time. Later today I will publish new post on creating templates for results.

That would be great. I am having trouble understanding what tags to use. I like the idea of using templates b/c it provides endless customization ability. However I have tried for a while now and I keep getting blank stars.

I think I might have figured it out. I need multi_REVIEW_average instead. I will have to test it in the morning to be sure.
