GD Star Rating 1.4.8

Thumbnail for GD Star Rating 1.4.8

Few more bugs were reported in the last couple of days, and I find some myself, so I decided to release another version before 1.5.0. Also, I did a major cleanup of the HTML and JavaScript code used on admin pages. And added few more things.

This release fixes some 10 or so bugs, all of them minor and only small number of users were noticed them. But, you know what they say: the only good bug is the software is a killed bug. There were few minor problems with installation on WP 2.6 and some of the missing styles. Some problems with builder are fixed, inserting default review values fails in some cases, problems with multi review code and some other things.

Rating results shortcode and widget now support excerpt for posts, and you can set number of words for excerpt to be displayed. Due to many improvements in admin panel code, memory footprint is now smaller and this optimizations will continue in the future versions.

Right now I am working on benchmarking this plugin so you can see exactly the impact on the website performance when you use it on the blog. Benchmark results will be published by the end of the next week. Also, I have added another static page on this website with Google Calendar where you can follow release and other announcements. Calendar is public and you can add it to your Google Calendars.

    Wonderful, thank you.

Incidentally, I notice that I am unable to leave a rating for the above post, the stars simply won’t respond to my click in Safari 4. I’ve noticed this before when leaving ratings for your posts, it does work in Firefox.

Sometimes it happens that Safari and Opera don’t load full JavaScript and CSS for the page. I will change loading for both in one of the next versions, and that should solve the problem.

Is bug in integrated multiratings concerning adding a vote every time comment is added regardless the stars were marked or not (votes with zeros) also fixed so far?

I forgot about it, sorry. It will be in 1.5.0. And it’s now on SVN, revision 749 so you can grab that version while waiting for official.

Not a bug. You are trying to use stars set that is not longer valid. Check what stars set you are trying to use.

Hi! Remember, i wrote about some problem here – http://www.gdstarrating.com/2009/05/31/gd-star-rating-140/#comment-1532
    and here – http://www.gdstarrating.com/2009/06/26/gd-press-tools-1-4-7/#comment-2017
I found why that happens on my blog. but may be it is a bug :)
Votes are not saving because i check-off an option in ‘GD Star Rating: Settings – Integration’ called ‘Add standard rating box in the post/page edit sidebar area.’ I did’t use that type of rating.

So if it OFF – plugin did’t save multireview votes :)

Yes, you are right, I will check this and change it so that multi box can work on it’s own.

    Hi,
In this new version I can not create new multi-voting, neither do I get my votes appear on the comments in the previous version if I could.
Just notify, in case there are more people who also happen.
    Thank you

Multi set creation is solved, and in 1.4.8 you need to change the url. You will notice that url contains & in it after you click to create new set. Change that to just &

Sorry…I’m running 1.4.8 and I don’t understand how to add new Multi Rating Set based on your instructions. Exactly what do I need to do to the URL? Right now, clicking on the button does not create anything even though I have multi enabled in the settings.

        Thanks

If you don’t understand what to do, better wait for 1.5.0 that will be released tomorrow and has this minor bug fixed.

There seems to be a bug in relation to WP 2.8
We recently upgraded and now find that we can’t export the voting data. All the information that we get in the exported file is the following:

    post_id vote vote_date

    Hi!
I really need this to be fixed.
I am not able to create a Multi Rate. You plugin is great though.
Also, I have checked ‘For posts displayed on Front Page.’ and it shows something else! ‘UN:F [1.4.8_745]Saving your vote. Thank you!Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)’ I recognize the text from the vote waiting message.
and on ‘For posts displayed on Search results.’ no stars at all.

No matter how many times I repeat something, still people don’t read posts. There is a whole post about that (not a bug), and is caused by Excerpts.

I’m not sure if you know what it means to host a Problem. You say: “Oh, you people are stupid, I have made a post about it, blah.”

Sure, but: I’m searching for this post since 1 hour now, cause YOUR Plugin does not work out of the box, and all I get is the message “There is a whole post about that…” Yeah man, WHERE IS IT? If you are so though to say RTFM just post a Link the FM!

Sorry, but yeah, I hate this situations. Something is not working and all what the people who can help you are saying: I wrote somewhere in my Blog a Post about it, why did you not read that? Blah! I have Version 1.5, so I’ll post my Problem in this post. ;)

I don’t know how much clearer I can be. Your problem is with WordPress Excerpt rendering not the plugin. And there is post about it and that post is called The Excerpt Problem, in the Tutorials Solving Problems category: http://www.gdstarrating.com/2009/02/13/the-excerpt-problems/

And, believe me that I have deleted many comments with these questions, because if you spend 10 minutes on this website and go through menus and categories you would found it yourself.

I’m quite surprised and more than a little dismayed by some comments here. This plugin is free. MillaN supports it freely and is quick to respond to valid questions.
We’ve found it to be an amazing tool for our purposes and have had VERY little trouble using it.
Perhaps before anyone starts shooting from the hip they should show some respect and do some reading..for similar problems that have been answered and if they don’t have the time? Maybe they need to just admit they don’t know what they’re doing and pay someone to do it for them.
I can suggest some good people that can help.
