With GD Star Rating 1.5.0 week away, this post will outline the features this plugin will get in the future. Most of the things I wanted do do is already done, but still there are many things that you can expect. List of features is split into two parts.
Few features planned in the previous roadmap will be moved to this one because I decided to skip them giving more space to some other more important features. But now different stars for multi set elements and multi set based rules and restrictions are back.
GD Star Rating 1.5 – 1.7
After the 1.5.0 release, road to 1.7 should take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
- WP Query support for sorting and searching posts based on ratings. (1.5.0)
- Recommendations or also known as thumbs up/down ratings, for both post and comments. (1.5.2)
- User and comment authors based statistics you can use anywhere.
- Full multi set based votes restrictions and rules support based on sets, categories and posts.
- RSS integration to support multi rating results. (1.5.6)
- RSS integration to support thumbs results. (1.5.6)
- More shortcodes and builder function support.
- Optimization of plugins database access using various caching methods. (1.5.2)
GD Star Rating 1.7 – 2.0
Work on this will start in the middle of august, with 2.0 completed by the end of October, give or take 2 weeks.
- Full WordPress MU / BuddyPress support.
- Cache plugins support should cover all cache plugins like WP Super Cache. (1.6.7)
- Multi sets to allow different stars sets for each multi rating element.
- Category based rating aggregation and statistics.
- More charts and support for custom statistical charting.
- Export of various voting and statistical data.
- Changing own saved votes by the registered users.
WordPress MU and BuddyPress support is very important, and once the first stage of changes is completed this will be next feature. I will start working on that soon, even before 1.7 is released because that will take a lot of time to do, and as you know I have very little free time.
So, there you have it. Some more things might be added to the list later, but regardless, all the features here will be implemented. Right now I am not sure about exact order, because some features depend on some other. Also, time frames are likely to change because it will depend on the other projects I am working, or will work on.

i’d like to put a widget “rate my website” or “rate our golf club”…and the results will be gathered on the external website.

You mean as some form of API for accesing the gathered data? That’s currently in planning but it’s not that simple. So it will be added at some point. I didn’t included that in the roadmap, because I am yet to decide what exactly to do with this and what data to be allowed to be accessed by the API. Also, roadmap is not set in stone, so things can change.

Hopefully the current merging of the WP and MU code bases will make it easier for you to implement this.

Well, plugin works right now with WPMU but not everything is working. And it was about time they merge WP with WPMU. Good things is that they made many changes in WPMU in the last few months to make it closer to regular WP. Hopefully this will be done with WP 2.9, but I think that is more realistically to expect this in 3.0.

Recomendations to future versions: The posibility to generate something like: “PREMIUM USER REVIEW”, “MASTER USER REVIEW”.. and so on.. Categories for the reviewers based on how many reviews the user post. Get plus trust on the system review. (Understandme?)

At one point you will be able to use the connection between users and reviews (and/or ratings) they add into the system. It will require a lot of work, but it will happen.

Great plugin !! The best one. Switched from wp-postratings to this one for my website.
Configured the templates with no problem at all. The importation did not seem to work great, but I don’t mind restarting at 0 hehe.
Waiting for the “WP Query support for sorting comments based on ratings”. This will be a great feature, as I will show the best rated comments on the top, instead of by date.
