GD Star Rating 1.4.5

I am sorry for the bug that managed to sneak into the code in the previous version. Bug only affected those that tried to install plugin for the first time. Problem was with installing default templates, so the rendering failed without them.

So, here is the new 1.4.5 with this bug fixed. Beside that, I have started work on the new category based managment, and that will be completed by the end of the next week. Starscape theme is updated to 1.5.9 that includes changes for GD Star Rating compatibility due to some recent changes. Starscape 1.5.10 will be released next week with few more changes.

Next week you can expect 2 new releases, followed by 1.5.0 by the end of the june or in early july.

  1. Thanks for continuing to improve this plugin, good to see that you have already implemented so many of the features listed in your roadmap at the beginning of May.

I am looking forward to 1.5 and to seeing what your next roadmap will include.

Keep up the good work :)

    • Thanks! New roadmap will be revealed by the end of the next week. I am still gathering info on the things I want to do after 1.5.0 is released.

  2. This seems more broken than the last one. I got errors after upgrading. So I did a fresh install.

    1) Templates didn’t get loaded. I used Setup to reinstall them
    2) I have no stars. The star sets pulldown menus are empty. The gd-star-ratings/stars directory is there

    • I have tested this release for the past 3-4 or hours with upgrades (even from broken 1.4.4), fresh installs and I have found no problems. If you found errors, I will need to see what this errors are.

  3. I got an error with shortcode for get_url() when rendering, so I suspect those are due to the star problems. I’ve re-installed several times and all the star pulldowns are blank. If I go to setting->graphics I see broken graphics.

    • Problem with missing star sets can be solved easy: GD Star Rating->Tools->Graphics->Rescan. This will search for all stars sets and will rebuild the data on them. If this don’t help, there is something else wrong. But since this is done with every update, and it works just fine on thousands of blogs that use it, problem could be some minor incompatibility. But for that, I would need more info.

  4. Ok. I did a full uninstall, and then unzipped again and activated and the stars are back. Something must have been hosed with the database, although I definitely did do “reinstall tables” previously.

It also seems that shortcodes silently ignore when a multitable ID specified doesnt exist, but the wp_gdsr_comment_integrate_multi_result() function complains when an ID doesn’t exist. My previous database reload caused by custom table to be missing.

    • Shortcodes ignore the problem because they are controled by WordPress, and WP hides errors. Multi set ID is required for multi set shortcodes and functions, and ID must exists, but that’s kinda obvious.

Table uninstall can fail due to some mySQL restrictions that can be in place (only way around is to manually delete all GDSR tables).

  5. wp_gdsr_show_multi_review() still shows the default template no matter which one is specified.

  6. I love your rating system; however, I’m having a problem – When you select any post category, you can see the rated or transparent (unrated) stars over the first post’s image, but only if you select a post category, such as Ghost News or UFO News, on the site. Do you know why and can you offer a solution?… Thanks!

  7. While trying to upgrade to the latest version (1.4.5) I got this error:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    • Something is wrong with the server settings, because if you look the config.php exists. If that file is not there, than you need to reinstall it. Also, read readme file installation instructions.

  8. I think a lot of files (like config.php) simply disappeared while using the WP upgrade!! I reinstalled from scratch & it worked!

  12. I found the problem with wp_gdsr_show_multi_review()

it seems to alias the multi_review_editor, and when it gets to render_mre it expects a derivative of the MRE template instead of the MRB which is what I expected. I suspect this is a bug, but all of the multi-review-rating-block stuff is so confusing I can’t be certain. Using an MRE derivative template works ok.

It would be REALLY nice if someday you could simplify the rendering to something like

    $multi=true/false $multiid $template=any $stars=any $type= (1=rating 2=review)

so we could put out any block we wanted without all of the hair-pulling complexity.

  13. I added ratings to my blog’s comments. My blog shows comments on the front page. When I open a single post and view the comments, the rating starts show up just fine. However, when I view the comments on the front page the stars don’t show up. How do I get around this?

    • Just a little bit more… I don’t want to display the rating on the post, only on the comments.

  14. Great Plugin!

I’m afraid I have a bug to report. I installed the updated version of the plugin, the last version I had was downloaded in January. When installed and set up, I noticed that the post rating widget did not display the stars anymore. Instead, it would show a narrow gray box the same height as the star-containing box, but only about 5-10 pixels wide. I was spending an hour yesterday and today trying to diagnose the problem, checking on and off settings, and I figured it out. Deactivating the Cache function brought the stars back for good. Is there any functionality lost without this setting?
I would also like to note that the “page displayed with errors” message in IE also stopped showing up when I deactivated the cache. This came up even when I was temporarily using a text-only template for the widget.
The website this is running on is http://www.inoculatedmedia.com

    • Few months ago I have posted about the updateding the plugin, and that update is not going to work from some old versions, and that plugin should be updated regularly. I am not sure what the problem can be, and analyzing old versions to see what the problem is will take too much time.

    hi milan

there is also some bug in the builder. php code (i m nt sure if it was present earlier as was not using php) for both expanded and default is same for multi review. Also there seems to be some more issue with code generation it gives true’/false’ which obv throws an error. it needs to be true/ false. ALso wrt rendering seems like now multi review is also showing some problem; have to check thoroughly

  16. Thanks for the quick response.
So then what do you suggest for addressing this problem with the cache? I had already completely uninstalled the plugin from within and without – it hadn’t been used yet because I was just building the site and took a break from it for a few months. Is there something I can do to completely wipe all trace of the plugin, old or new, and put it back in to make it work?

    • You can completly uninstall plugin from plugins Setup panel. This will remove everything from database. But you need to manually delete gd-star-rating folder located in wp-content folder.

  17. Hi Milan,
First I would like to congratulate you for this wonderful plugin.
I have to say that is the greatest that I’ve ever seen.
    Despite that I have a problem. :-D
I can not see my star rating in my blog for the post (just the number) and people can not vote. For the comment it is working, I can see the stars and people can vote.
I tried to deactivate all my plugins and I changed my theme many other but the problem is still there.
    Any idea ?

    • Thanx. This is not a bug, your settings are of. You are using stars size 24px for posts, but you have only enabled 12px and 16px. Once you add 24px, the stars will appear.

  18. Hi MilaN,
Wow thanks you so much for your quick answer.
Indeed, from now it works !!! I would not expect that :)
Maybe you could write it in the setup page ? Or maybe I missed it :-)

  20. Millan,

Great work on GD Star Rating! This is a great plugin, I really appreciate your hard work and skills on this.

I am using this plugin for a review site, and I am trying to add the custom css to the “starratingmulti” review block. I added the default css info in those 4 categories on the GD Star Rating – Settings, to try to produce the “blue” multi rating block, but it would not show it.

Also, my multi rating block takes up the entire width of my post area, is that the default setting? How can that be fixed?

I really want to get the “STARRATING” table to show up, so that it can be a summary of all my different post reviews. I remember in the user guide, you mentioned a small red star icon to open up the “visual editor integrated plug-in”. I do not have this small red star, where is this found?

I am a pretty quick learner, but getting the multi review blocks and summary table to show up how I want it has proven to be difficult.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for the hard work.

    • Thanx!

Icon is infact dark yellow, as the logo image is. And it’s located on the toolbar of the post/page rich text editor. If you don’t use this editor, you can’t use this icon. This will help you get shortcodes. If you don’s use rich editor, that open plugins Builder panel, the same thing is located there also.

  21. It appears that I have lost my graphics on my StarRating….

Am i missing something? Did I change something?

    • Most likely you changed something. Rendered table is missing images, and that happens if you change template for this and remove rating stars image and leave only text. Or some other plugin has removed images (very unlikely).

        • Templates are stored in database, and there is an option to reinstall them. If after that same thing happens, then something else is interfering with rendering.

          • Reinstalled the database.. and deactivated all plugins except for GD Star Ratings… still nothing…

More on Multi Set Rating not deleted:
1st page- GD Star Rating: Multi Sets -> 2nd page GD Star Rating: Multi Sets: Voters

From 1st page -for a multi set it shows me 4 votes but but when I go to 2nd page its empty. I am not sure how it ought to work but does it only show registered users who voted or should it show all users who voted for that multiset in some post?
Ideally, I would love something like this – when I go to 2nd page it shows me all votes and an ability to delete any of them – even the anonymous one. i.e. assuming that deleting a comment deletes a particular vote (which is not happening), I still can’t touch the votes which are enetered anonymously (rating block isnot read only); so something of this sort can help manage better. Again this is just a idea
