In the last week I was very busy working on my 3 main plugins: GD Star Rating, GD Press Tools and the latest one GD Simple Widgets. Both Press and Widget plugins have seen a major release in the last two days. Here is a little more about them.

There are many plugins for WordPress. Too many if you ask me. Some plugins do a simple things like adding a single function, or implement whole complex systems like GD Star Rating does. But to make a lot of changes to the WordPress you need many plugins. At some point you can end up with over 20 or 30 plugins, and in time you forget what some of them does. Also, updating all the plugins can be really tricky. That’s the main reason I made GD Press Tools. This plugin can replace more than 20 other plugins currently available on WordPress Extend.

And by using only one plugin instead of 5 or 10 you are currently using to achieve the same thing, you will update only one plugin, you will have all the settings and tools in one place, and you can be sure that the plugin is regularly updated and supported.
List of features for this plugin is very long, and more will be added. I want to create ultimate plugin for enhancing the WordPress form simple stuff like modifying grids to tracking views or SEO optimizations.

Available Widgets
GD Simple Widgets
This plugin was written to improve some of the default WordPress widgets like recent posts and recent comments. These plugins are very limited, and I needed more. But I started working on the plguin and added few more widgets. Latest Popular Posts widget requires GD Press Tools installed for tracking post/page visits.
Also, this plugin requires WordPress 2.8. And as far as I know this is the first plugin written exclusively for the upcoming WP. All widgets have many options for filtering data and for selecting what to display.
This is also my first plugin that will soon get a premium edition GD Simple Widgets PRO. This version will not be available for free download but will be a big improvement upon the free versionand will include templates for the widgets, more options, more widgets and more control over display. Premium version will be released by the end of this month.

As always, I will continue to improve on these plugins, and to work on some new plugins. In the meantime, try GD Press Tools and GD Simple Widgets (once you update to WP2.8) and I think that you will like them.

sounds interesting and having to update only one plugin, rather than 5 or 10, will be very handy, but I do wonder if one person can keep such a multi-faceted plugin as cutting edge as several individual plugin authors, each focusing on one feature.

Most of the features don’t require any maintenance. And since I use plugin myself on all my blogs, I will notice if something is not working.

When I try to activate the simple widgets plugin, I am getting this error:
Fatal error: Class gdswrecentcomments: Cannot inherit from undefined class wp_widget in /home/content/g/i/b/gibsona1/html/reviewcenter/wp-content/plugins/gd-simple-widgets/widgets/gdsw-recent-comments.php on line 3
Any idea what is wrong?

GD Star Rating already has 3 widgets built in with full template support that you can make too look anyway you want. GD Simple Widget will soon get premium version that will also have full templates support and it will be able to use ratings for every widget.

I need stars for Most Commented and Recent Comments. I’m also having issues with the GD star widgets not showing up correctly. Now sure what the problem is, but definitely could be something on my end.

Check out the tutorials: http://www.gdstarrating.com/category/tutorials/widgets/. Most likely there is a problem with some of the settings.
