WordPress autoupdate feature deletes installed plugin before installing new version. And all customizations you made in the plugin folder will be gone. Because of that I have decided to use alternate location for additional stars and trends image sets.
And because of that I only include few sets with main plugin distribution, and you can download and install additional sets if you want. Plugin automatically scans both plugin folder location and alternative location for stars.
Step 1: Creating folder structure
Alternative location is in wp-content folder. There you need to create folder with name gd-star-rating. In this folder you need to create two more folders: stars and trends. When you do that, folder structure should look like the image on the right. Folders uploads and upgrade are usually created by WordPress.
Step 2: Adding image sets
When you download (or create your own) image set, you need to extract (if in archive) image set into stars or trends folder. Each set must be in it’s own folder. Sets you download from this site are already in the folder so, only extract them in stars or trends folders.
Step 3: Scanning for new image sets
Now you only need to let plugin know that the new set or sets are added. When plugin is updated it will scan for new sets on it’s own, but you can trigere the scan whenever you want. Open plugin panel Tools. This panel has few tabs with various tools. First panel is called Graphics, and it has Stars and Trends Graphics tool. Just click on Scan button, and plugin will scan for changes. Also you can always see when the last scan is executed.
And that’s it. All the new sets are now added and can be used by the plugin, and will appear in all the lists where you need to select set.

Currently you can have a wigdet, but you can’t have stars. This will be available soon. Also, I have created filter that can import data from Post Star Rating plugin into GD Star Rating.

Hi.
How comes that my custom made set does not appear in the list?
The files are just like the originals (png24, same size in px, name) and the folder-structure is correct.
The rights are recursivly set to 777 and i set the user and group to “nobody” or my ftp account, both.
And offcourse i did several rescans in the tools section.
It’s wp 2.7 and the latest gd-star version.
Thanks in advance,
m.

Read tutorial from start to end. You need to scan for new sets so the plugin can know that set is added.

Just did it and found out about the stars.gdsr file which needs to be inside the folder, too.
Maybe you should edit this post and add that information
Thank you.
