I can't reproduce the problem because I don't know what is causing it. WP-DB is a global instance and all plugins use it. Maybe some other plugin set something that can cause problems. Plugin load stars from two locations. One is outside of the plugin folder, so it will not be overwriten by upgrade. All extra stars need to go to that extra location.
